Lovely campsite and manager with a great choice of pitches in woodland and fields. Fire pits and wood supplied and shared fridges and freezers. All facilities including showers and toilets were modern and well-maintained. Definitely worth ordering pizzas on site. Perfect location with shops nearby and plenty of walks.

Absolutely beautiful campsite, real feeling of privacy in the woods, with lovely views across the countryside. Clean and pleasant facilities, and super-helpful staff looking after your ever need, including daily delivery of more than enough logs for a good campfire!

It was a pleasure to stay at Chiltern Retreat Rural Camping. The facilities were clean and excellent condition and the host was friendly and welcoming. Located in the heart of the Chilterns, the campsite is perfect for hiking up hills and through woodlands and peaceful villages. The pitch was spacious and secluded with complementary firewood. Would love to stay here again. Special thanks to Bella and Coffee Dan 😊

Good location, not far from Chiltern Way Route 3. Made a last minute booking and found Nicki very helpful. When we arrived, she found us a good tenting spot as some heavy rain was expected. All the expected facilities were there and were in good condition and clean.

We had a relaxing weekend camping on this beautiful campsite. There are a variety of pitches to suit everyone. We chose a secluded woodland pitch and weren't disappointed - it included a firepit and logs were delivered daily. The toilet and shower block were a short walk away and were extremely clean. On the Saturday night we enjoyed a freshly cooked pizza from the cabin onsite. Nikki was extremely friendly and helpful. We're already planning our next visit.

Absolutely loved it!!! Would give it six stars out of five if I could. There are three places you can camp. We chose Woodland. It's also one of the few sites that allow open fires, but at the time I went in mid August, due to the hot dry weather, understandably, open fires are temporarily banned. But you can still cook on Charcoal/Has BBQ as long as minimum of 3ft above ground and great care is taken. The shower blocks, separate men's and women's shower areas were all very clean and lots of free hot water. Good washing up facilities, and there are freezers, fridges, and areas to charge up phone etc.You are directed to each woodland pitch by the owner. The pitches are large and spacious. The owner was super friendly and helpful.I didn't go to the others areas of the site, camping in a field etc. But this is supposed to be a off grid style - so no electrical hook up at the pitchesAny downsides? It is expensive. If you are going as a group, you negotiate a group discount.I will go back - many times for sure Absolutely loved it! :)Update - came back in July 2024. This is still 6 out of 5 stars! 🙂 Your pitch in the Woodland section is your own glade! Lots of space, complimentary logs each night for your camp fire. Staff are so friendly and obliging. I have uploaded some pictures this time around. I cannot recommend Chiltern Retreat enough 🙂

Wonderful campsite. Have stayed twice in woodland glens. Was busy this time with groups but a very happy atmosphere and everyone was generally respectful of the rule to be quiet after 10pm. Niki does an amazing job of being available and keeping things running smoothly. Pizza available Friday and Saturday, coffee available the following mornings, should be promoted more. Gorgeous walks and several pubs in the area to choose from. Will definitely visit again.

Well this is tricky because what we loved most was the quiet and the space, so I'm reluctant to big the place up.But it was lovely and I don't think Niki would ever let the quiet and space be compromised.Camping areas are well spread-out with meadow between. The very first sign I saw made it clear that people should be quiet as much as possible and super-quiet after ten. It really was quiet! We heard owls and the dawn chorus was magnificent but we all slept happy and undisturbed. The setting is incredible. I don't understand how there can be somewhere so remote and peaceful so close to London. The site is elevated so has views (we were in the parkland site, not in the woods). There are red kites above. Dozens of them in fact. The children ran about. We walked to the pub and attempted (but aborted) a walk to the cricket pitch.Loos and showers were decent and kept OCD clean.

Excellent campsite. More on the wild side than others which is why we like it. Beautiful woodlands and and views with very large pitches complete with complimentary firewood, fire pit and picnic bench. The facilities are rustic but clean and with adequate hot water. We took our small(ish) campervan and will be definitely coming back. The Prince Albert is an excellent tiny local pub with very friendly staff. If you're looking for a slightly sterile campsite with hardstandings, EHU and a shop selling pot noodles, this isn't for you. If you like the outdoors, woodlands, friendly staff (Nikki is lovely) and watching red kites soar around nearly in touching distance then definitely book here.

Had a great bank holiday weekend here.||We were a mix of adults, families, kids and couples. Tents and motorhomes.|Everybody was made to feel very welcome by the hostess. Facilities were clean and plentiful, although I may have missed every morning rush due to cocktail hangovers.||We were put up in a field where we had plenty of space from the other groups. There is also many pitches under the trees.||By 10pm everybody in the field was quietly enjoying a fire in their own pitch. Perfect getting the kids to sleep.||Spent a day in Henley on Thames, busy place, fair few shops. Lots of cafes and pubs.||Will return to the site, i have no doubt.||Thanks for looking after us x

Arrived at the campsite approximately 5 in the evening and the atmosphere was brilliant and very nice breeze. The lady owner at the Campsite is so kind and given very nice private pitch within woods with BBQ machine and fire pit. Our enjoyment started after we set up our tents through out the night until morning. The campsite is really good for families and I would recommend for everyone who wants enjoy the life in woods for few days.

We have camped here many times now, we always chose the woodland camping. Lovely rural camping in the chilterns with lots of walks from the site. There are all the facilities you need when camping, hot showers, washing up area, use of fridge and freezer. Each woodland pitch has a fire pit and logs are delivered each day. The pitches are huge and private, perfect for family or group camping, we've done both.Big shout out to the lovely helpful Niki!

We had a fantastic time during our 4 days of camping. The facilities were just right for a rural campsite and the location was perfect, with a mixture of open fields and woodland - great for kids and adults alike.||The staff (especially Nikki the campsite manager) were friendly, really helpful and full of advice, going above and beyond to make our stay thoroughly enjoyable.||The only improvement we suggest would be to up the pressure & temperature of women's showers (i.e. to match that in the men's showers), other than that everything was super.

Can’t thank Niki enough for her efforts to make our stay the most comfortable and enjoyable experience. She went well out of her way to accommodate us and make us feel welcome. Her generosity didn’t go unnoticed either. The campsite is wild and you’re immerse in the beautiful nature surroundings, with lots of space around you (rather than crammed in). There are also showers and loos, and access to a fridge and freezer (fab!).If you like being in nature, and want to scape from standard, crammed campsites, this is the place for you.

We were in the park field by ourselves as the group was 50 plus so not sure on the main campsite but park field has a toilet block another 2 outdoor showers (enclosed in a hut) but most importantly free fire pits and wood! The field was also massive and our 50 tents took up no space at all, i.e. plenty of room for multiple different groups of kids to run around and play games. All in all, it was a lovely weekend.

We had our best camping experience at Chiltren Retreat. We pitched our tent at the field as the woods were still muddy. The field has a great view. It was lovely to watch the sunset. The staff is extremely helpful and always there whenever needed. You feel that you are at wilderness but facilities are just behind the trees and easy to access whenever you need it. Toilets and showers were spotless. There is also a washing up area and fridges available. We are so pleaesed to find this camping spot that is only an hour away from London. We are definetely going back soon.

Just back from our fifth visit here and already booking for next time. This site is a gem - easy to reach from London and feels so rural still. The pitches are generous for our group of friends (we always choose the Broadfield pitches but the woodland ones look nice for smaller groups) and the facilities are really well maintained and thoughtfully done. Nicky the site manager worked tirelessly to ensure that things ran smoothly on the busy bank holiday weekend and it really was appreciated! The site has a curfew and a culture of sticking to it so we always sleep pretty well too. Firepits are fab and the night sky is so big for us Londoners! See you soon lovely Chiltern Retreat!

Massive thanks to Nicki for this stay over!!I was looking for somewhere last minute after helping my son move house in the area and needed a place to stay close by, i messaged her and she got back to me fairly quickly with a "Yes we have room".I'd let her know i was a female travelling alone and needed somewhere to feel safe and she took me into the main padock area where a couple of other people where also camping. On pulling up there was a fire pit with wood supplied and a picnic bench so i didn't have to mess about with my table and chair. The shower facility was clean with hot water...always a bonus and nice little washing up area.Lovely spot to wake up in, will stay again.

We’ll be back!

Fantastic campsite! A wonderful few days at Chiltern retreat over the bank holiday weekend. Pitches are allocated and all come with picnic table, benches, fire pit and logs. Toilets and showers were good. The countryside and views were gorgeous, lots of walks in the area and the ability to be able to walk to a pub which is always a bonus! Customer service was excellent. A big thank you to Nicky who checked on us each day and was just brilliant.
We will definitely be back xx

Camping with the kids and dog! My two daughters, dog and me spent a day and night at the Chiltern Retreat campsite.
After being slung out of the house by my wife so she could enjoy her birthday with friends, we hired a camper and took off for the hills! The campsite is stunning, we had the option of camping in the field in the sunshine, adjacent to sheep, crops and stunning views of the countryside; or in the woods, with plenty of nooks in which to set up camp. We settled for the cool autumn sunshine in the field, lit a fire and spent the day and evening sat around our camp bbqing, listening to music, exploring, toasting marshmallows and star-gazing.
Finding the place was made extremely easy because Bella, the campsite owner was quick to communicate on text, practical and forthcoming with all the information we needed. We were welcomed by Bella (and her entourage!) on arrival, given options of where to pitch, shown all the facilities, given more than enough logs to burn and the lend of a lighter to get the fire going!
The toilets, showers, wash up and kitchen area provided far more than we needed and were easy to access in the dark of night.
Bella bib give us recommendations for local amenities, pubs, walks etc. But we chose to stay put. The friendly and relaxed atmosphere made us feel at home, and at one with our stay deep in the Chiltern countryside.
Both my daughters now want to go back to the Chiltern Retreat campsite with friends to celebrate their respective birthdays. I would definitely go back.

We've been back several times with different groups of friends. Jessica and the team are so so lovely and so accommodating. Such a beautiful setting for camping!! I've done what feels like 100's of camping trips and Chiltern Retreat is easily my favourite, it has the right balance of everything. Thanks guys for a lovely holiday 🥰

First visited In 2017 and loved it, with a promise to return. We did. Easter 2022. Just as fab, just as peaceful and just as perfect. From arrival welcome to delivered evening firewood and, of course, perfect clean ' nearly wild camping ' facilities 🙂

We had a fantastic stay, set in beautiful woodland, with the bonus of a lovely pub within a short walk, serving excellent food and real local beer (wild camping with facilities) can't wait to return - I would highly recommend this location in the lovely setting of the Chilterns

Great Scout Camp we held a really lovely traditional camp for our whole Scout group. the team were very accommodating regarding our specific needs, space, site location, help with safeguarding planning, number per tent etc. the area is ideal for hikes and exploring. we had lovely camp fires in the evenings and Broadfield Meadow worked well for facilities too.

Whoa Facilities: Adequate; Toilets and showers are just okay but do the job. Firewood delivery included is a nice touch.
Local Area: Good walks, decent pubs.
Pitch: Amazing... the pitch compensates for all, it felt like wild camping in the woods. The largest pitch I have stayed in and in a very private setting gives this campsite the edge over any others I've experienced for the price. For sure going back.
