Plan Your Stay
Chiltern Retreat has so much to offer you, so you can camp the way you want
Firstly, choose your ideal location:
Park Field Camping
The Park field is approximately 8 acres and based in Frieth Village, which is a very picturesque spot just above the Hambleden Valley.
The Park Field has lovely views and is very peaceful, as well as having our village cricket pitch adjacent to it.
This field offers the most space for pitching areas and groups and it has a very flat landscape. It is a must for avid bird watchers as there is a large population of Red Kites in the area that can be spotted with ease and frequency and they often circle above.
Park Facilities
The facilities in “The Park” are basic and include:
- Two Male and Three Female loos
- Two male urinals
- Several hand wash basins
- A hot water washing up sink
- Two drinking water taps at both ends of the field
- Three hot showers, Two being a bit alfresco and outdoorsy
- We can add additional portable loos to this field if required
Please note – there is no electricity in this field, so do remember to bring torches for those little middle of the night trips to the loo!
Woodland Camping:
The pitches on offer on this part of the site are set in several acres of beautiful unspoilt Chiltern woodland.
We have a variety of options within the woodland. There are secluded grassed down coves which are ideal for smaller families, couples or individuals. We also have larger pitching areas that can accommodate a group booking so you can gather around the fire under the tree canopy with all your friends.
All of these areas are either under or surrounded by superb tree canopies, providing you with different degrees of shade and protection from the sun (or rain!)
We also have ‘wild and rural’ areas for those requiring a slightly more remote camping experience, yet still within easy reach of the facilities! These pitches are further into the tree canopy where you pitch on a typical woodland floor of fallen leaves and soil, they are much more secluded than the grassed-down areas.
All of the above are fantastic for children of all ages – there is plenty of room for them to safely run around, play games, and climb trees, whilst allowing older members of the group peace of mind and a degree of quiet cogitation.
Woodland Facilities
- Male and Female loos
- Male Urinals
- Male and Female hot showers
- Numerous handwashing sinks
- A washing up area
- A communal hut where there are power points for charging electrical appliances such as phones. You may also plug in hair dryers or inflate your mattresses here
- Communal fridges and freezers, please note these are on a first come first served basis, we would recommend bringing ice blocks and cool boxes just in case
- All water is suitable for drinking and there is an outside tap for filling up large water containers.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have offered all our guests the use of portable loos for exclusive hire. We will be continuing to offer this through 2024/25 for large group and weekend bookings for peace of mind for those wishing to avoid communal areas or for those not wishing to walk off their pitching areas to use the loo.
Broadfield Meadow Camping
This is a seven-acre field with stunning views over the Chiltern Hills and Hambleden Valley.
You can spread out more as a group whilst still being away from others as we spread groups out as far as possible to maximise privacy. You are welcome to set up ball games, nets and other sporting activities out here as it is a larger open space than in the woodland; It is great for large family groups with children wanting to play sports.
We tend to put families and adult groups in separate parts of our fields so everyone can enjoy peace and quiet away from others.
Broadfield Meadow is directly adjacent to the woodland area and shares the same facilities block. In addition to the woodland facilities, there are several standpipes in the meadow supplying fresh drinking water.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we offered all our guests the option to exclusively hire portable loos onto their pitches. We will be continuing to offer this through 2024/2025 for large group and weekend bookings for peace of mind for those wishing to avoid communal areas or for those not wishing to walk off their pitching areas to use the loo.
Lower Court Farm Camping
This part of the farm has two fields that are adjacent to each other, separated by a hedgerow. One field is a bowl shape landscape surrounded by trees to screen you off from all around so you feel more secluded – this is the camping field. The other one is adjacent to our commercial let yard and left empty so you do not have camping neighbours and if hired for an event or large booking you can utilise it for additional space. They are 6 and 4 acres and although these fields have not got the views like the Park or Broadfield (our meadows in Frieth) they do offer a large open space to set up activities in away from other camping groups.
It is an easy location for guests to find as is just off the Marlow to Lane End road/B482.
LOWER COURT FACILITIES:
- A kitchen which includes two washing up sinks, two under the counter fridges, one american style fridge/freezer and some electric plugs if you needed to charge phones etc.
- There is also a bathroom block with 4 loos, 2 hot showers and hand washbasins for both men and women.
- You may also hire additional portable toilets directly in the field itself if requested/needed.
- The facilities listed above would also be exclusively for the group’s use.
Exclusive Hire
We can offer exclusive hire in some areas of our site subject to availability and a minimum spend.
Exclusive field hire will include exclusive use of the field area and all facilities listed. All vehicle parking in the fields and any additional gazebos or marquees will also be included.
